The service was slow, inattentive, and unprofessional, and the prices were high for what we got. I used to find the Kerala food here above average, especially the seafood, but this visit was disappointing. The Neymeen (Kingfish) curry tasted and smelled strongly of “onakka meen,” like it had been made with old fish. The Chicken Biryani was dry and bland, and the Chapathi, Parotta, and Chilli Chicken were below par too. For the same money, or even half as much, better food and service are easy to find elsewhere. I wouldn't recommend Al Saj Restaurant at the moment, unless they make real improvements.

The service staff, especially the North Indian team members, were polite and respectful. But our visit with family was still very disappointing. We ordered two soups, yet the bill charged us for three. When we asked about it, the staff member who took our order gave a confusing explanation instead of addressing it respectfully. We'd also asked for two extra bowls for the kids, and that simple request became an issue at billing. On top of that, we ordered beef kizhi parotta and were first served chicken kizhi parotta. They exchanged it after we pointed out the mistake, but it showed poor attention when taking the order. The order-taking staff's attitude and the billing issue overshadowed the otherwise courteous service. I hope management improves both customer service and billing transparency.

There's plenty of parking, which makes visits easier when it's busy. I've come here several times for lunch and dinner, and each time has been better than the last. The food is consistently fresh, flavorful, and well prepared. Staff are courteous and attentive, and they make an effort to keep the meal pleasant. I've had some of my best dining experiences here, and I keep coming back. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for good food, friendly service, and a comfortable place to eat.

The chicken fry was inedible, black as charcoal. Maybe it was badly over-fried, or perhaps cooked in oil that had been reused too many times. The Nasi Goreng, which the menu calls a speciality, was also a letdown. It was made with basmati rice and had none of the Southeast Asian flavor I expected. We ordered Schezuan Fried Rice too, and the two dishes looked and tasted the same, with the same rice and color. A regional speciality should taste different from generic fried rice. Charging speciality prices for what felt like the same dish in three forms left me feeling misled. Save your money and appetite; there wasn't anything special about the food.

The staff were prompt and attentive, and the atmosphere made for a really enjoyable meal at Al Saj Hotel. The chicken biriyani and beef dishes had rich, authentic flavors, while the fried rice was cooked just right. A welcoming spot if you're after good food and service.
