Hotel Udhayam International

The breakfast had plenty to choose from and was delicious, and I loved my stay 🩷 The room was comfortable, the rooms were clean, and the staff were friendly and attentive. Food was good too, and the location worked well. I was very pleased with the value and the service. It felt more comfortable and luxurious than I expected, and I’d happily come back for a longer visit. I’d recommend it.

The buffet costs 180 per person, and hotel guests get the same breakfast menu complimentary. I came in hungry and had two poori bhaji, a dosa, two idlis, a vada, some pongal and kesari, plus a glass of coffee. There was idli, sambar, dosa, poori bhaji, vada, pongal, coffee and tea, kesari, and more. The food was above average. Pongal was tasty, the vada was good though not hot, and the dosa and poori came fresh and were lovely. The idli and sambar were hot and tasted good. The Kumbakonam 'degree' coffee was brilliant, and the kesari was the cherry on top. I’d recommend it to travellers. Good value, with excellent service from very well behaved staff.

Flies in the lobby, a leaking room, and poor service made this a bad stay. Apart from one good staff member, the others were horrific. They seemed to think we were staying for free and asked unnecessary things like room service. The complimentary breakfast is in the morning, but if you go from 9am, you may not get food properly and they make you wait. The hotel is called Udhayam, but with service this unhygienic it could soon be Usthamayan. Three stars will circle around your head if you stay one day, plus two more if you stay another day, making five stars. Check the lobby yourself if you don't believe me. The room was leaking and the staff were bad, apart from that one person. If anyone reads this and chooses another hotel, at least I saved them.

The room had several problems: water leaked across the ceiling from the AC, the door lock came off when we tried to open it, and the shower didn't work. When we tried to fix it, the pipes popped out. The elevator stopped midway during a power outage and wasn't automatically connected to the generator. Food was very average, with only the bare minimum offered. The name “International” gave no indication of the experience. It fell short of international standards and even local expectations. I won't visit again, and I'd strongly advise people to check nearby properties, which are far better.
