The food was especially delicious, and I’d come back for that and the peace. We visited during office season in May. It was warm, but coolers made the tents pleasant inside. The surrounding area felt like jungle, with crocodiles in the lake, plenty of beautiful birds, and a very quiet, peaceful atmosphere. The place felt safe. If you want liquor or beer, bring your own. We brought some liquor and a watermelon. I’d recommend it to nature lovers, people looking for peace, and foodies.

Bring binoculars if you can. There are crocodiles and many kinds of birds to see, and watching birds skim across the lake is a wonderful sight. Naveen, the property manager, knows a lot about the local flora and fauna, and going on safari with him is an added bonus. He and his team were warm hosts. The tents are spacious and thoughtfully equipped, with lots of electrical points, electric hot bags, powerful torches, toiletries, and more. Meals are plentiful, wholesome, and tasty, with both veg and non-veg available according to your choice. I’m still thinking about the ginger tea I had every morning. Dera Baghdarra is an amazing find and a peaceful haven. Stay a few days for a real break from city life, with lovely sunrises and sunsets and birds calling all around.

The lake opens out to wide views, with crocodiles swimming in the distance and storks, herons, and other water birds flying around all day. It’s a wonderfully calming escape into rugged natural surroundings. Fresh home-cooked meals are prepared daily, and Naveen ji and the staff were very hospitable. Thanks to the owners too for their conservation vision and commitment to the park.

Naveen Ji, who runs the place, is soft-spoken, polite, and knows the wildlife in the area very well. He and the rest of the team are wonderful people managing a beautiful spot. The stay is in luxury tents by a lake, in the Udaipur jungle and within a forest preserve, with quality home-cooked food served buffet style. I’ve travelled all over the world and live in beautiful Northern California. This was honestly one of the most memorable stays I’ve been fortunate enough to have.

Dera Baghdera is a hidden gem, beautifully set in nature among many kinds of birds, and it’s a wildlife conserve for crocodiles in Udaipur. Pankaj ji, Naveen Singh ji, and their team were warm and welcoming and took good care of us. The rooms were spacious and clean, and the home-cooked food was superb. Don’t miss the safari or morning bird walk. The place is very well managed.
