Monu gave us useful tips about Varanasi and where to head next, and we’d happily stay here again if we return. The guesthouse is right in the old town, but our upstairs room was peaceful, roomy, and clean. It even had a little roof terrace where we could get away from the city bustle. We had a lovely few days with Monu and his family.

Monu has a real knack for understanding what people from different cultures need. We’re grateful for his care and hope to come back. When we visited at the end of February 2014, I was nervous because it was my first time choosing a hotel instead of my Guru’s ashram. Mony Family Paying Guest House turned out to feel safe and welcoming, with clean rooms, hot water, a friendly family, and inspiring conversations with other visitors.

Monu bhai and his family made the stay feel like being a guest in someone’s home. His little daughter and wife were so well behaved, and his parents were wonderful too. He’s an educated, kind gentleman, and we liked him a lot. The guest house is very close to the temple, so you can hear its sounds in the room. People who love God may really enjoy that. If you come to Varanasi, Monu Guest House is near Viswanath Temple.

Monu knows Varanasi inside out, from the little lanes to good places to eat. Born and raised there, he shared lovely stories that helped us understand and fall in love with the city. He’s friendly, enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and comes across as a very intelligent, sympathetic person. We enjoyed the walking, car, and boat tours, and I’d definitely recommend him as a guide.

We felt safe and welcome with Monu, and even got to visit his home for Indian tea and meet his lovely wife and family. He speaks English very well, so we could ask all sorts of questions and talk about anything. He was always polite and friendly, and took time to show us so many wonders of Varanasi, including places we wouldn’t have found ourselves. His knowledge of the city’s traditions, culture, and history is deep, and he shared it with real passion. We came away with a very good impression of Varanasi and highly recommend him as a tour guide.
