Vijaigarh kothi

This time I came back after a year, having stayed here for work quite often before, and I was very disappointed. The place looks good in photos, but it’s very overpriced and not worth half the charge. The rooms smelled bad, the bathrooms were disgusting, and I almost vomited. The sheets and quilts had dirty stains and had to be changed. There was a bad odour and cobwebs behind the bed. There’s no owner taking responsibility. They pass everything to the staff, who are half trained and villager like. Trust me, save your money. DO NOT BOOK THIS PROPERTY.

The location was fantastic for walking to the ghats and ceremonies, while staying away from the old town’s narrow, cramped alleys. The rooms and breakfast were great, and the team running Vijaigarh Kothi was accommodating and fantastic. Straight up an excellent experience. Highly recommended!

Manager Shubham was great and tried to make our stay okay, but after booking two rooms for a ten day work visit, we left in one. This is a very average hotel dressed up as a boutique or heritage place, and the tag isn’t justified. The bathroom was basic, the coffee table had dirty marks, and we couldn’t sleep because every street sound came through. Breakfast was spotty, and we had to ask twice for everything. Once we got rooms at The Taj Ganges, we were relieved. Nothing here justifies the price.

The staff were extremely polite, though they need formal hospitality training, and I wish the owner would rent this wonderful property to a professional hotelier instead of managing it himself. The property is clean and well maintained, but the surrounding locality isn’t as clean. Assi Ghat is walkable if you don’t mind the walk. The breakfast choices are very limited, but you might love them if you’re fond of Banarasi breakfast. Restaurant hours are limited, too, and they couldn’t provide the plain cold glass of milk I requested at night. The place also needs professional designers to give the interiors, especially the rooms, a complete, proper heritage look.
