The cliff cottage varkala

We never received the Premium Sea View rooms we had paid for, and the resort said it only has two of them. We had booked three rooms through Agoda 13-14 days ahead, two Premium Sea View and one Superior, paid the full amount shown, around ₹30,000, and got confirmation that same day. After driving overnight from Bangalore, we arrived on time, only to be told the booking was for two Superior rooms and one Premium. It also seemed the resort was giving our booked Premium Sea View rooms to guests booking directly and charging them extra. We spent nearly three hours arguing, with no refund or proper solution offered. Agoda customer care finally answered, and only then did the manager say it was a “software problem.” The breakfast was poor, the rooms disappointing, and staff behavior terrible. It was one of our most frustrating trips. If you want a peaceful holiday, I strongly recommend avoiding this resort.

The caretakers were accommodating, helped with our luggage, and quickly pointed us toward good local spots. Even though the property is near the lively North Cliff walking path and its cafes and shops, it still felt peaceful. The location beside Black Beach is incredible, with direct beach access and a clean, well-kept outdoor pool. From a premium balcony room, the Arabian Sea stretches out in front of you, and the sunsets are magical. S'Cliff Beach Resort is a great cliffside stay in Varkala. I'd spend extra for a Premium Sea-Facing room, since the standard rooms don't show off the location's beauty as well.

The sea view was stunning and made the stay feel special. We were comfortable in the well-kept room, and the food had a delicious range of choices. The staff were friendly and the service was excellent. I had a wonderful stay and would recommend this property.

We paid around ₹4,999 for a sea view room, expecting the view shown during booking, but got a poor room with no window and no sea view at all. At reception, the explanations about room categories and availability kept changing, which felt confusing and misleading. From what we saw, there seem to be very few actual sea view rooms, while several room types are presented in a way that can set different expectations. The stay lost all its charm. I'd strongly advise checking directly with S Cliff Beach Resort, Varkala before booking a sea view through a platform.
