Hotel Picnic

The location was the best part: it’s an easy walk to the shrine and church, and check-in went smoothly. Staff were polite too. But for ₹2,485 for four people for one night, even at an off-peak rate, the room and upkeep were disappointing. The bathroom had stained fittings and tiles and didn’t feel hygienic. The bed linen had visible marks and loose fibres, and the extra bed was torn and dirty. The building and room both seemed old and overdue for renovation. Our AC barely cooled, and although WiFi was promised, we effectively had no connection. For a family stay I expected better comfort and cleanliness for the price. This might do if location matters most and you’re prepared for an older, minimally maintained room, but I’d only recommend it at a much lower rate with modest expectations.

The staff were courteous and knew their work, and the rooms were clean, neat, and well kept. Morning Star Church is very close by. We had a comfortable, pleasant stay here, and I’d recommend it.

I’ve just finished a stay at Hotel Picnic on 20th Nov, during the non-season. The double room was roomy and tidy, but the intercom for room service and the television weren’t working. Housekeeping said the TV had a problem and would be replaced after I checked out. I didn’t make an issue of it, though these things could have been checked and dealt with before assigning the room.

The food was quite good, and the rates were economical. Our room at Hotel Picnic in Velankanni was very clean, and service came promptly. Thanks to Satya at reception for helping us, and to Mr. Tamil, Mr. Anthony, and the cleaning staff for being so kind and friendly. A really nice place to stay, highly recommended.
