Gooseberry Retreats

Tony sir came by at night and suggested places worth visiting during our trip. He’s also a doctor, and gave me treatment and good guidance throughout the vacation, even helping us find good spots along the way. The stay was peaceful, with hot water available around the clock, and it’s a good choice for families. You’ll want your own vehicle to relax here. It’s accommodation only, so pack food or order from a nearby hotel. I highly recommend the place.

The greenery and trees around the property made for lovely scenery, and the rooms were spacious and clean. We stayed for four days and had a great time. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the location was good. They also offer an Ayurvedic spa, parking, and proper travel help, so you don’t have to worry about planning places to visit. I’d definitely recommend Gooseberry Retreats if you’re staying in Wayanad.

The service and friendly staff were the strongest parts of our stay, and Karapuzha Dam is less than a kilometer away, close enough to walk to. Dr. Tony, the owner and manager, gave us a travel plan listing places to visit in Wayanad. The caretaker Mr. Mahendar, his wife Durga, their daughter Rajini, and her baby sister were all humble and quick to help. Their cooperation made the stay much better. Our room, Lotus, was basic: bed, small table, two chairs, cupboard, wall shelf, working TV, and wall fan. The window and air vents had netting, so we had no bugs indoors. Rooms are named after flowers, and there’s no elevator, so ask for a ground-floor room if stairs are difficult. Bathrooms were clean with hot water. There’s open parking, and we parked a Tempo Traveller easily. Food can be arranged if you tell them ahead. We liked the chapathi and chicken curry for dinner, but not the appam, egg, and veg curry at breakfast. They also offer a campfire with room for a group to dance, though the music selection wasn’t good, especially for DJ or dance songs. Bring a playlist. Some useful improvements would be bedside cabinets, a bigger table, hangers in the cupboard, and another table or luggage stand. A few playlists on hand would improve the campfire too. A gate at the property entrance would make the compound feel more secure, especially with the main road nearby.

Tony sir was kind and made sure we were comfortable throughout our stay. The property is very close to karapuzha dam, where there are several adventure activities.
