Kristal Hotel Duhok

The location is very central, and the room had a nice view of the city. The conditions were absolutely decent for the price. The staff were helpful too: when we decided to leave a day early, they kindly refunded the final night. It’s a very nice hotel.

Beds were clean and comfortable, and the rooms were clean too. The hotel could use a bit of upkeep, since it feels somewhat untidy. Staff are very friendly, and the location is good.

At $65 to $80, it’s very expensive for what you get, and I can’t recommend it. The Wi-Fi goes off when the electrical power does. There’s a traditional router on each floor with wires hanging down, bad doors with no isolators, and an old, poor AC power source. The walls were unclean, and the air conditioning got noisy when running at full power.

I booked through booking, but the receptionist asked me to cancel there so I wouldn’t have to pay the rate fee, saying he could offer a cheaper price. I was traveling with my parents, who are 70. The reason for this cheaper offer and cancellation was that renovation work was going on. The lift wasn’t working, so we had to use the stairs up to the second floor. Construction workers carried on until 3 a.m., and even after we complained at reception, they didn’t stop. A second team started again at 7 the next morning. The drilling and hammering against the wall woke us badly, and we only got a few hours of sleep. It was rude and very disrespectful to customers paying for comfort. Don’t go somewhere that treats customers this way.
