Hotel Laxarbakki

Hotel Laxárbakki was a little haven in the storm! We had a balcony right by the river, and the small kitchen was spotless, with an icebox and freezer, microwave, and stove/oven. There was hot water in the shower and shampoo provided. The breakfast buffet was wonderful and available for 3000 ISK.

The remote setting keeps things peaceful, which is great if you’re looking for quiet. The interior layout and facilities met, and in some ways exceeded, what I’d expect as a paying tourist. There’s a hot bath and a sauna room, and the heating in the attached bathrooms works superbly. All the food was delicious, and the dining space was roomy, with the reception desk in the same area. Buffet times are a little strict, apparently to help the management serve the small number of residents on schedule. We highly recommend checking the place out.

The owner was extremely helpful and answered all our questions. We spent two nights in a beautiful cottage, with a great view and a location that worked wonderfully for our different day trips around Iceland. Breakfast was amazing, and the dinner we had at the hotel was one of the best meals of our holiday.
