Móar Cottage

The location was okay, though a little close to the highway, and the interior felt too dim. When I arrived, the room looked as if it hadn’t been cleaned. I messaged the owner but never got a reply.

Our last stop in Iceland was Móar Guesthouse, and it left us with a positive impression. We had a clean, cozy cabin, with lovely surroundings. The spacious modern kitchen was a highlight, really well equipped for making proper meals. After a long day, having to put the bed linen on ourselves wasn’t ideal, but otherwise it was a very pleasant stay. Recommended!

The refund took three weeks. Once we got home, Booking.com said the property hadn’t responded for weeks, and we had to send several messages and photo evidence before the money came back. Getting it sorted had already been a struggle late that evening. After nearly an hour going back and forth with the owner, we were told a refund could be arranged through Booking.com. We booked another hotel at the last minute for less money and found much better quality, despite her saying that would be impossible. Our stay at Moar Cottage was a huge letdown and nothing like the photos. The first room was filthy, with hair on the bed, floor, and in the bathroom, crumbs on the furniture, and previous guests’ leftovers in the toilet. It looked as if nobody had cleaned it. I called reception to request another room. A woman who spoke limited English came to show us a different cottage, but it had the same dirty, unhygienic conditions. The photos were misleading, the hygiene was terrible, and the staff were unfriendly and unhelpful. The location disappointed us too, and it wasn’t worth the money. I don’t usually write reviews like this, but people should know. There are much better places in Iceland, so skip this one.

The cabins are perfectly fine, with what you need, but there’s nothing special about them. It’s a well-equipped one-room cabin, and you have to bring or provide everything yourself. The cabin is the only accommodation there. If your booking app or agent lists laundry, a hot tub, or other services and amenities, that information isn’t accurate.
