Uthlid Cottages

The cottage had plenty of room for four, and the kitchen was fully equipped. We also made good use of the working hot tub. Its location was ideal, and the darkness around us made it easy to enjoy the aurora borealis. One of the best places we stayed in Iceland. I only wish we’d had more time there.

The reception team were so friendly and helpful, always ready to do what they could to make the stay enjoyable. When my van got stuck on the snowy hill leading up to the campsite, they arranged quickly to have the road cleared and gritted. The hot tub was wonderful at night in the cold, and made the holiday especially memorable. I left early to catch my flight, before reception opened, so I didn’t get a chance to thank them again. I’d definitely recommend this campsite and place to stay.

Make sure you eat at Restaurant Rettin by Reception. The fries and slow-cooked lamb were excellent. The cottages are lovely, and the basket breakfast is generous. Great for sunsets and northern lights too, especially if you book one with a hot tub.

There’s a Jacuzzi available, but after visiting natural hot springs in the area, we didn’t feel like using it. The cabins vary in condition, and we ended up in one of the middle-range ones. That’s why I couldn’t give it four or five stars. If you get one of the newer cabins, I think you’ll have a great experience.
