The Barn Hostel

The facilities were great, especially the fully stocked kitchen, which was super clean and had lots of amenities. The location was great too. We’d misunderstood how many people would share our room, and it is a hostel, but twelve people in one room meant plenty of noise and complaints. Late arrivals were loud, and a woman complained when we packed up at 10 a.m., which made it more irritating than it might otherwise have been.

Being right by the Ring Road made getting around easy. We stayed in the couples’ room and found it comfortable, with a pleasant atmosphere. The modern bathrooms were very clean, and the building felt newly built or recently renovated.

The views from every side were incredible. We even watched an amazing northern lights display from the car park. The room and facilities were spotless, and the kitchen was huge and well stocked. Loved staying here!

My group had a six bed women’s dorm. The beds were comfortable and the privacy curtains were appreciated, but the room was very narrow, with no luggage storage or locks and barely enough room for six people’s bags. Most of us packed light, though two medium suitcases made the squeeze obvious. There was a large window and dark curtains, which helped during the bright June nights. My main concern was the bedroom door had no lock, and we weren’t given keys. That raised some privacy and safety concerns. I was with people I knew, and the country and hostel felt safe overall, so it didn’t keep me up, but it limits my rating. The rest of The Barn felt like home, with many communal spaces, a huge kitchen and dining area with lovely views, and bathrooms spread out with separate toilets, showers, shared sinks, and a hair and makeup area. Everything was clean and modern. Staff were very friendly, and the bar had a few small food items. There’s clearly a lot of care in this hostel, and I’d stay again.
