It’s a cosy, quirky little place, and you’re only a five-minute walk from a black sand beach. The rooms are narrow, but that seems to be common in Iceland; they’re serviceable, and the south-facing ones get very warm. There’s eclectic art, lots of books, a nice kitchen and a fabulous upstairs bathroom.

The host was the best part of the place. We went for a stroll before bed, and the most wonderful northern lights appeared as soon as we reached the road. We’ll never forget that night.

We had a very good stay during our trip to Vik in Iceland. We were well looked after, slept well, and had a fantastic view of the little bay.

The dog was friendly and the bathroom was clean, but the kitchen was small and dirty, with lots of unwashed dishes in the sink and on the stove. I booked a double room with a balcony and got two single beds with no balcony instead. That felt very dishonest. Don’t go.
