Ársalir Guesthouse

The bathrooms were clean, which matters a lot to me. The place itself feels quite old, and the “kitchen” was greasy and a bit of a joke, right down to a sponge that looked like it might have been there for years. For what we paid, there are definitely better options in Vik.

The location worked really well, with the main attractions around vik only minutes away. Breakfast was simple but good, and the washrooms were spacious and well equipped. It’s such a cute, cosy place, it felt like staying at my grandmother’s house.

Breakfast options were limited, though they made us delicious fried eggs. The bathrooms are shared, but we had no trouble using them. Our rooms were spotless, the beds looked brand new, and we saw no sign of bugs. The place has that cute grandmother’s-house feeling, while the rooms and bathrooms seem quite modern. I’m not sure whether they’ve renovated since the older reviews.

The guest kitchen is downstairs in the basement. It’s small, so only two people can use it at once, but it has an air fryer, fridge and microwave. Having a sink in the room was handy for brushing teeth and doing cosmetics. The house has a no-shoes rule and provides slippers, which I really liked. The bathrooms were clean, though the hair-and-body wash dispenser was empty whenever I used it. The old hairdryers had melted fronts, which made attaching the head difficult. If your room doesn’t have its own bathroom, there are just two showers upstairs to share with several other rooms. There’s a cosy living room where you can hang out or read, and it doubles as the breakfast dining area. Breakfast is a small but sufficient spread, and the panini press is great for making grilled sandwiches. The guesthouse feels old, and the rooms weren’t the cleanest, especially dusty spots like around the power plug. The beds were soft and lumpy, and the sheets felt scratchy. The location is convenient, near a Kronan supermarket and gas stations, with Crepe.is right outside. We also saw the aurora from a small nearby carpark.
