Kiljan Apartments

Service was basically nonexistent, and we weren’t given any check-in information. Hotels.com said check-in was at 14:00, but a sign on the door said after 16:00, so the listing was wrong. The balcony view from family room 2 was beautiful, though there was a strange setup on the other side, a swing tied to a small play cabin, with a local graveyard right behind it. That could bother some people. Inside, the room was quite good, but the furniture was arranged oddly. Decent for one night.

The building is old, though the room itself wasn’t too bad. The water had a strong, nasty smell, and right in front of you there’s a lovely view of a cemetery. Easily our worst stay in Iceland.

The sulfur smell from the shower filled the whole apartment, and the Wi-Fi was very weak. There were flies in every room, too. We’d been looking forward to the view through the nice windows, then saw a graveyard right beside us and had to keep the curtains closed. A terrible view and an awful stay. You couldn’t pay me to come back.

The bed didn’t have a sheet, which was the real problem. I asked the woman about it, and she said the mattress pad counted as a sheet. I used to work in bedding and linens, and it wasn’t a bed sheet. The room was large and sunny, and the bathroom was spacious, with a tub my wife was excited about, though the stopper wouldn’t hold water well enough for a bath. There were also instructions on the wall suggesting we wash our own water glasses.
