Hotel Hafnarfjall

Borgarnes is only six minutes away by car across the bridge, with shops, restaurants, and whatever else you need. This place is great: there's plenty of parking, a jacuzzi outside where you can soak and watch the aurora, and a sauna too. The rooms have a simple Scandinavian style, and they're clean and comfortable, with great beds and a very clean bathroom. The staff were really nice and friendly. If you love auroras, this place will blow your mind. All the aurora photos you see are taken here. Totally recommend it.

The hotel sits in an open, flat spot, with no surroundings in view, not even the small town. You'll need to bring food and can cook for yourself. Around you there's just a huge dark sky. For relaxing, there's a hot pot and a sauna room. Breakfast isn't offered, but they do provide free coffee, milk, and biscuits.

I booked this as a cheap place to sleep during a school weekend on campus, and it ended up being the best hotel experience I've ever had. From one side there's a beautiful mountain view, from the other a breathtaking ocean view. The rooms are nice, the beds are comfortable, and the jacuzzi looks out over the sea. The staff were incredibly helpful, including when my disabilities flared up before the trip and they accommodated me so well. I'll definitely come back the next time school brings me to the area.

We stayed in a bungalow by the sea. It's a little dated, but still spacious and comfortable, with everything we needed. The mountain views were beautiful, and having a hot tub for guests was a nice extra. It's also handy for getting into the city and reaching gas stations and supermarkets. A good place to relax and explore the area.
