We were four people ski touring in the area, and the cottages had plenty of room, comfortable beds, and a well equipped kitchen with all the essentials. After a day out, it was great to use the sauna and hot tub, with the showers just a short walk away. Bjarni and Heida were so kind and welcoming that we felt at home. On our last night, we even got to see the aurora borealis from the cottages. We had the best time in this little gem in Dalvik and would love to come back soon. Highly recommend it if you’re nearby!

The hot tub at sunset, looking out at the mountain tops, made for a really memorable stay. We were three people on a camping trip when it started raining, and the host took our reservation with just 30 minutes’ notice. He was incredibly accommodating. We stayed in one of the little cottages, and he also runs the excellent local cafe. We’ll be back the next time we’re in Iceland!

The host was the nicest person we met in Iceland, which is saying something because we met a lot of nice people. The room was comfortable and well located, and after a long day the hot tub and sauna were perfect. Dalvik is worth the trip even if it’s out of the way.

Dalvík was a lovely seaside town and a welcome change from the busy ring road. It’s worth the detour, and we’d suggest checking out the beer bath and taking the trip to Grímsey for the huge number of birds and the fascinating little island community. We’ll definitely be back, 10/10. We spent two nights of our honeymoon in a cottage, and it was our favorite place of the whole three week trip. The room was adorable and cozy, with everything we needed to make breakfast. The bed was a comfortable double, a funny surprise after mostly getting two twins at budget places around Iceland. The outdoor hot tub beside the outdoor shower and barrel sauna was such a treat after a freezing, wet day ferrying out to Grímsey island. The room was also amazing value, even beyond Iceland standards. Bjarni was incredibly accommodating and generous, from when we booked months ahead to our arrival. It felt like he was looking after us personally, even though he also manages a 40 bed hostel down the road and runs the little cafe in town. He showed us around the charming cafe on our last morning. It’s full of history, and we loved hearing his stories about the characters who’ve been there. True Detective filmed their 4th season there! We wish we’d had time to try his famous fish soup. He also told us about the “eat free fish” festival in August, which sounds like quite an event.
