Lambastadir Guesthouse

For the price, I’d choose a hotel instead. This is a very basic guest house near Selfoss and the golden circle, and it feels more like a hostel. You can see the northern lights from here, and parking is free. The beds were quite hard and uncomfortable, about 6/10. Breakfast was also 6/10: very simple but delicious. There are few room amenities beyond shampoo, conditioner, and hand soap, and the towels are very small. Noise from other guests coming and going was a problem. The hosts helped when asked, but weren’t very interactive. The interactions felt awkward, and at times I felt like we were a bit of a burden. It’s hard to describe, but it was an odd experience. The hot tub was just okay. The sauna is open for 2.5hrs in the late evening, from 20-2230.

The owners and their family clearly put a lot of thought and care into this guesthouse. It was the best place we stayed during our Iceland trip. The historic photos and paintings in the decor, plus the sauna, hot tub, and the family’s service at breakfast, all showed how much they care about their guests’ experience. Breakfast was excellent, with a bigger selection than we’ve had at many hotels around the world. We’d expected basic toast and cereal, so the variety was a lovely surprise. The electric charging was handy too if you’ve rented an EV. It’s paid, at the standard rate.

Just outside Selfoss, this was a handy spot for reaching lots of sights. Breakfast was included and great. The people running the place were helpful and gave me plenty of road trip advice that saved me some headaches.

My sister fell in love with Lambastadir Guesthouse as soon as we arrived, and I had a lovely one-night stay too. It’s conveniently close to Selfoss, and the included breakfast was delightful, waffles and all. There weren’t any electrical outlets next to the bed, which was a small drawback, but it didn’t matter much overall. A charming, pleasant place.
