The breakfast had plenty of choice and was delicious, and the rooms all sit on the first floor, so they’re easy to access. Silica Hotel has about 30 rooms, with a beautiful design that fits into the natural surroundings. I found its lagoon much calmer and more private than the Blue Lagoon, which was packed, from the changing rooms right into the water, with people on their phones making video calls and filming. We left our bags at the hotel, took the included van to the Blue Lagoon, then came back to check into our room and enjoy the breathtaking view. Petra was lovely every time we spoke with her. Such a stunning hotel and a great experience.

The staff were so friendly and helpful, and our room was spacious, comfortable, and pleasantly warm even on my November visit. There was a little seating area outside each room, plus a good-sized shower with a rainfall head. Guests also have access to the hotel's own small lagoon, as well as free entry to the Blue Lagoon. The hotel is roughly 40 minutes from Keflavik airport. I’d happily stay here again if I return to Iceland.

We spent three nights here, and the staff were wonderful the whole time. I loved how normal it felt to wander around in a robe and slippers all day. The Silica Hotel lagoon was incredible, and often we had it entirely to ourselves. Its floor and edges are coated in natural silica, a detail you don't get at the Blue Lagoon next door. Aside from going to the restaurant, I didn't feel a need to visit the Blue Lagoon, though entry is complimentary if you want to. It was such a relaxing stay, and we were sorry to leave. We'll come back!

The Silica Lagoon was a lovely contrast to the Blue Lagoon. The Blue Lagoon was fun, but so crowded, so we spent mornings and evenings back at Silica, often with the lagoon entirely to ourselves. After we settled into the hotel, the surroundings felt beautiful and peaceful. The approach had surprised us: instead of green, rolling hills, there was black volcanic debris. We later found out an eruption in 2024 had wiped out nearly everything, and they’re working to rebuild. We stayed two nights and had the included breakfast each morning. Herman greeted us and looked after us, going above and beyond and even helping plan our sightseeing drive along the south rim. Get to know him while you're there! Our flight landed at 10am, but check-in wasn't until 4pm. The front desk kept our luggage and gave us day passes for the Blue Lagoon while we waited, which was amazing since we were too tired to go sightseeing. If your timing is similar, keep your swimsuit somewhere handy so you can grab it and go. The stay is definitely pricey. I do think a few small extras would improve it, like a complimentary one or two drink happy hour each evening, a golf cart shuttle to the Blue Lagoon, or all-day access to the coffee maker. Still, it was a wonderful way to relax after a long flight before heading out to see Iceland's sights. P.S. If you want photos in the lagoon, bring a waterproof phone pouch. We bought one at the Blue Lagoon, where they sell them, but it cost quite a bit more.

The setting really adds to the stay. The landscape is dramatic, and even among the lava fields there's beauty to find. We had only two or three other people in the private lagoon when we visited, and it was amazing. Our room was spotless and suited a short stay where the surroundings are the main attraction. I liked that there wasn't a TV on the wall. We had a good stay at Silica.
