The room was big, and the bed was fine for a night, though maybe Icelanders are used to these mattresses. The kitchen had most of what you’d need, but the stoves didn’t work and we weren’t offered an alternative, so we had to go out for dinner. Not a huge deal, but it doesn’t help if you’re trying to save money. The bathroom was basically the space under the stairs, much too small and barely usable. The shower was in a door off the kitchen, in the place where you’d normally keep food. It had been turned into a tiny shower room that was dark, smelly, and hardly ventilated. Honestly, it wasn’t that bad overall, but those things bothered me a lot.

The apartment itself was comfortable and amazing. The owner was lovely and friendly, and took time to sit and chat with my friend and me. Since we’re on the younger side for people traveling alone, it felt nice to have someone be so welcoming. She also moved us to a larger room after seeing how long we’d be staying. We had such a lovely time.

The staff were genuinely friendly, and the beds were comfortable. Breakfast loses a star for me: toast was the only vegan option, though they did have rice milk for a hot drink. At €100 a night, the price is fair game to complain about, especially since someone else booked it for me.

The rooms were nice and clean. Some people may find the place cramped, but I liked it, and it had the feel of a typical European bed and breakfast. I just wish they’d let us check in a little earlier, after our eight-hour flight into Reykjavik.

The neighborhood was quiet at night, with no street noise, and we couldn’t hear the people in other rooms either. The shared bathrooms never had a backlog. Hallgrimskirkja is under five minutes away, and most other city sights are within 15-20 minutes. It was a homey, comfortable stay in a great location, with nice staff.
