Hafnir Apartments

The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the place felt new and had everything we needed, including a washing machine and shower. Parking right out front was handy, though getting to the front section takes a bit of a walk. We really enjoyed staying here, but for a 10/10 I think it would need to cost about 25% less.

The apartment itself was in great shape and had everything for a comfortable stay. It was clean, with a well-equipped kitchen, stove and oven, utensils, a coffee machine, toaster, tea and coffee. The bed was springy but we slept well. Its location in the town centre, looking over the harbour, was convenient for Kirkjufell, and having parking right behind the apartment made unloading our bags easy. The arrival arrangements were a mess. We booked two nights through Expedia for September 2024 and, 48 hours before check-in, Hafnir apartments emailed instructions saying we had apartment 2, check-in was from 5 p.m., and the door would be open with the key inside. When we got there, the door was locked and there was a key box outside that needed a code we hadn't received. I emailed, texted, sent a message through Expedia, and called, but nobody got back to us. After waiting an hour in the cold, we gave up and booked another hotel about a 40-minute drive away for that night. The next morning I called again and eventually got through to someone who gave me a code. They didn't apologize for the wrong instructions and blamed Expedia, saying other Expedia guests had run into problems too. If that was known, why hadn't anyone answered my messages? It felt completely unacceptable and unprofessional, and I felt conned. I doubt I'll get any compensation or refund. Even the guest guide in the apartment repeated the emailed instructions and never mentioned a code.

We should've stayed another night. This was the best apartment of our seven-day Iceland trip, with everything brand new and a great shower, bed, and location.

Really nice apartment.
