We came for an overnight stay hoping to see the northern lights, and it turned into a memorable experience. The clouds weren't very clear, but our iPhone still captured them. The place was easy to find and drive to. The cottage is on the small side, but clean, with comfortable beds and a handy kitchenette for making breakfast. We arrived late and felt at home right away. There’s no AC, and the heater seems to run automatically. The customer service staff didn’t answer our calls or texts.

We weren't sure what to expect at Afternoon Cottages, but the cottage was charming and cozy, with nearly a full kitchen, really comfortable beds, and a nice bathroom with plenty of hot water. It was spotless and clearly well looked after. Snow covered the mountains during our visit, and there was a peaceful little river nearby. We even woke around 2 AM and saw the northern lights from the cottage. A lovely place to enjoy Icelandic nature.

I'd happily stay here again. It was a good base for getting to Landmannalaugar the next day, and I woke up to sunrise and a waterfall outside my window. Fell asleep with the auroras out. Gorgeous home, beautiful setting.

The rooms were spotless and honestly nicer than some of the other places we stayed during our trip. It was cloudy, so we didn't see the lights, but when conditions are right this would be a perfect spot for them. Our tire had a leak and was flat by morning. They helped me get air into it so I could make it to town for a repair. Thanks for hosting us and going above and beyond.

The cabins are a little cramped, and wind makes them pretty noisy. Still, the dark skies and mountains in the distance make this a lovely place to watch the Northern lights. Getting there isn't too difficult with a good 4x4.
