Fosshotel Myvatn

We only spent one night here, but woke up feeling rested. Our room was comfortable and nicely furnished, with a little private deck facing the lake. It was warm and sunny when we arrived, too. The sauna on the third floor was a highlight. There are no hot springs, but the sauna gets really hot and has a lake-facing window, a balcony, and comfy seats to relax in after a session. The facilities all look out over the lake and surrounding area. The restaurant felt like the fanciest part of the hotel. Its big windows frame the lake, and the food was fresh and delicious. A really comfortable stay.

On my second visit to Fosshótel Mývatn, I still couldn’t recommend it more. The rooms are immaculate, and the food, drinks, and service are all top notch. The third-floor sauna is incredible and open until 10pm. The hotel bar’s happy hour deals are great value, too.

The restaurant view is extraordinary, so I’d recommend booking a table by the window. The lamb and steak were exquisite, and the service was perfect. During my 10-day trip around Iceland, this was by far the nicest hotel I stayed in. The rooms are spacious and modern, and the views are spectacular, even from the sauna on the third floor.

The restaurant food was great, the service was awesome, and breakfast was very good. But the shower kept switching between hot and cold every few seconds. The bedsheets were the roughest I’ve ever slept on, with such heavy lint buildup that they looked like they’d been washed far too many times. We asked for another duvet so we could sleep on top of it, because the sheets felt really gross, almost like sleeping on goosebumps. Please see the attached photos. The sauna was quite small and closes at 10pm. Between the shower and the bedsheets, there were some major letdowns. For the price, it didn’t feel worth it or like a four-star hotel.
