Midgard Base Camp

Everything was good here, including the kitchen facilities, hot tub and sauna. The Polish receptionist who checked us in, a girl wearing glasses whose name we didn’t catch, was so attentive, helpful and friendly. She showed us all the facilities. I wish every hotel had a receptionist like her, in Iceland or anywhere else we travelled. Highly recommend if you’re heading to Vik.

My wife, parents, brother and sister-in-law came with me. We each had a private room and had sightseeing planned for every day. From the airport pickup to the drop-off, the team treated us like family. The place is warm and welcoming, with spacious private rooms that have their own bathrooms and showers. Upstairs there are also hostel-style rooms for up to six, which smaller groups can share for a lower fare. The food and drinks at the base were lovely. During our stay, an employee invited us to their home, served us a traditional breakfast and shared their life story. You can tell this is more than just a job for the staff. I’m so grateful we found Midgard, and can’t wait to come back. A beautiful place in a beautiful country. Thank you for having us!

I spent 10 days here and loved it. As an architect, I really appreciated how the community centre, guests, restaurant, music and adventures all connect. The building and interior are modern and comfortable, and the people behind the space clearly have great taste. Midgard, remember me, because I’ll remember this place. I hope to return sooner than I expect, with my family and friends. Everyone should go and support them. It’s a great spot for aurora hunting: I saw the lights on 8 out of 9 nights. The hostel is tucked behind a small industrial estate, so light pollution makes it less ideal for northern lights. Still, we walked a short distance and got a great display. The place was clean and friendly, and there’s a great bar. A fantastic singer was performing a concert when we arrived, which was lovely.
