Ísafjordur Hostel

The town itself was much more interesting than the hotel. The restaurant downstairs seemed nice, and breakfast was fine, though boring. I appreciate how clean housekeeping kept the place, but the stay was disappointing. I know it isn’t supposed to be a glamorous hotel, but the bathroom was tiny, dark and uncomfortable, and didn’t look like the pictures. The shower curtain smelled, and water still spilled out. There was no hairdryer or phone to call reception. The hotel felt bleak. I understand this isn’t an area of Iceland built for tourism.

We had a wonderful dinner and drinks at the modern restaurant, and the prices seemed reasonable for Iceland. The internet worked well, and there was plenty of free parking. Our room was spacious, immaculately clean and had a lovely fjord view. Would 100% stay here again.

I gave one star because the customer service was bad. We’d booked two nights, but after the first we decided to check out. Before checkout, we asked when we needed to be out. They asked why we were leaving, and we said we weren’t happy with our stay. They offered to show us other options, but we declined. We booked through hotels.com and contacted them about getting a refund for the second night, which we hadn’t used. The hotel refused and argued that we hadn’t let them know.

A good hotel in an AMAZING location. The service was excellent, and breakfast was lovely. Definitely worth a stay, as long as you expect the kind of luxury you’d find in a VERY remote northern town, not a big city. We had a nice stay 🙂
