The area was quiet, and the airport is only about 5 km away. There are just three rooms and the bathroom is shared. The shower meant sitting in the tub because of the low roof, and hand soap was all there was to use. The toilet was the real problem: it took around 30 minutes to refill for a flush, so you had to use a bucket of water. For a single night, you can get through it, but just so you know.

The house itself was nice, and I didn’t have any complaints about the accommodation. The trouble was dealing with the owner. Since our flight was due in very early and we had a small child, I asked through airbnb whether we could also book that morning. She said yes and asked me to pay outside of PayPal. I’d dealt with Icelandic people before and didn’t think she’d try anything. Then a major storm cancelled our flight. airbnb refunded what I’d paid there, but she refused to return the separate PayPal payment. She also wouldn’t arrange another night until, I assume, airbnb asked her to. I hadn’t known they weren’t allowed to request money outside of airbnb. It was frustrating to have to call airbnb to change the booking when they support both sides with natural disasters and flight cancellations. Communication was hard too: she spoke neither Icelandic nor English, and took a whole day to answer each message.

Everything was organized well, and the rooms were clean in a quiet area. We booked it for an early flight, and I’d stay here again if we come back.

It was comfortable and a nice place, with an okay price for what you get. The construction wasn’t great, though. We stayed in winter and weren’t cold, but there were chilly spots. Nothing luxurious.
