Hótel Laugarvatn

The room we asked for was arranged happily, and the hotel was spotless and peaceful, with a lovely lake view. It’s also handy having a petrol station right next door. We ate so well here: the tender, well-seasoned lamb steak came with potatoes and a rich mushroom cream sauce, the cod was fresh, and the baked brie was outstanding. The cheesecake with fresh mangoes was a treat too. The pizza base was thicker than we expected, but it was still very good. Everything was reasonably priced and full of flavour. Warm, accommodating service made for a relaxing stay in a lovely town. Highly recommended.

We got the room number and entry code by email, and getting in was easy. As we started up the stairs, an employee came after us to check that we had everything we needed. The accommodation was simple but perfectly adequate. It also worked well as a base for a Golden Circle day: close enough to Brúarfoss to avoid an early start the next day, and not too far from Reykjavik for the drive back after sunset.

Phillip at the bar was really accommodating. We came in just before 9 PM after missing dinner at the nearby places, and he got the kitchen to make us a delicious pizza. It’s our first night at this lovely, simple hotel. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and we’re looking forward to the next 3 nights!

The lake view through the window was nice, and the room was clean and comfortable. But the entrance was hard to find, the instructions weren’t clear, and the room was tiny. There was nowhere for luggage, and the bathroom had no ventilation to clear the shower steam. Breakfast costs extra and is served in the dining area in another building. For about $22 in American dollars, the spread was nice for the money. Nothing is cheap in Iceland, and this was more continental than a cooked breakfast, with no scrambled eggs or bacon.
