Hotel Laxa

The Aurora call made our stay. The forecast didn't look promising, but after the front desk offered to wake us if the Northern Lights appeared, we said yes. About an hour after check-in, staff hurried down the hall knocking on doors. We rushed outside and saw the best lights of our 12-day trip. When we came back in, the team were grinning as much as we were. That kind of care made it unforgettable. The room was spacious, comfortable, clean, and nicely designed, with everything we needed. Breakfast had lots to choose from too. This was the best hotel of our Iceland trip, though we weren't staying at five-star places.

There aren't many supermarkets nearby, and there's no laundry service, so a fridge in the room would have been handy. It may not be essential, though. The place is free of light pollution, so with clear weather there's a good chance of seeing the aurora. Staff were thoughtful too, knocking to let guests know when the Northern Lights appeared and booking us a lovely dinner. All the amenities were clean and tidy.

Waking up to the lake and sunrise from our lake-view room was beautiful. We signed up for an aurora wake-up knock and got to see a few lights. The hotel is lovely and close to Myvatn, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast and dinner were good.

The Northern Lights views were great 👌. Dinner was only okay, and the restaurant was very expensive. We ended up paying £60 more than we expected, so bread and water must have cost extra. It was our mistake, but check the bill carefully.
