Butterfly Guesthouse

Our apartment worked perfectly for our stay, and Jon had stocked the kitchen with milk and coffee. Having a stove meant we could make breakfast before heading out early for our tours. We also enjoyed eating on the balcony, where we could see a small part of the port. The guest house is on a quiet street, with plenty of restaurants and sights within easy walking distance. Jon welcomed us warmly and was lovely throughout our visit. When I sprained my ankle hiking on my last day in Iceland, he moved me from the third floor to a first-floor room and made sure I was comfortable. I’ll always be grateful for that. Butterfly Guest House was a big part of a great Iceland adventure, and a perfect choice for our first stay in Reykjavik.

I like having a shelf in the kitchen fridge for each room. It makes it easy to pick up groceries and cook when I want a budget day. The location was especially handy during marathon and culture night weekend, with museums, galleries, concerts, outdoor activities and the fireworks close by. Harpa is less than a five-minute walk away. This was my fifth visit or maybe more, and I keep coming back for the location, price, comfort, cleanliness and familiarity. The rooms are really clean, and I’ve seen Jon cleaning them himself. He’s always cheerful, friendly and helpful. I brought a friend this time, and even though she usually stays in pricier places, she loved it and had several great conversations with John. I’d happily recommend Butterfly Guesthouse to anyone and look forward to another stay.

We were in Room 5 upstairs, and it was very comfortable and cozy. Breakfast could be a little better, but we were mainly there for the room. Jon was accommodating, and the location was perfect for our first two nights in Iceland. A friend recommended the place to me, and I’d recommend it too.

The host was very nice, but the room felt far too expensive, even for a busy week in August. There was no breakfast, and having to take off our shoes at the entrance and leave them outside the room was an annoying hassle. The room layout was awkward, and the bathroom was very small. We stayed for two nights.
