We paid a great price for a total 10/10 stay. The apartment was huge, very clean, and had a fresh, modern look, plus a balcony. The location is superb, about a five-minute walk from the downtown pedestrian street. The kitchen had a dishwasher, toaster, oven, kettle, and built-in stove.

The place was warm and well located, and we were pleased with our stay. It could use a bit of decorating.

I didn’t feel safe here. We booked through booking.com and got one email with our room assignment and entry code. Later messages that we never received had a different room assignment but the same code. We checked in around 10 pm and went to sleep. At 3 am, someone opened our door and got into our room. After I messaged the hotel, it seemed there had been a communication error and a room mix-up. Strangers had access to our room, and if they’d checked in earlier, we might have walked in on them. The same code also worked for another room, meaning we could all enter rooms we weren’t supposed to access. I had to ask them to change the code. The shower grout had mold and the toilet paper holder was broken. The stove hood vent and light didn’t work. The microwave was too big for its cabinet and stuck out.

We were happy with our choice after comparing the prices and options. Staying here gave us a pleasant, unusual chance to feel like locals, with shops, restaurants, and bars nearby. It isn’t as posh or spacious as some hotels might be.

My friend Þórhallur Friðriksson was arrested there for getting a massage, and he’s still in jail because of it. Free him now!!!
