Ice Hotel

I'm reposting this because the owner rudely took down my previous review. I won't stop until this hostel is closed and no one stays there, because I wouldn't want anyone else to go through what I did. It was a terrible stay, and I would do anything not to spend another night there. The lift felt unsafe. It moved up and down while the doors were still open, and a hotel worker brushed off this serious safety concern. The fire doors also seemed unsafe in a fire, since they wouldn't open unless you used a certain technique. The worker again dismissed the concern and said it would be fixed tomorrow, but that wasn't good enough. At the start of the night, we also found extension cables linked together like Christmas lights, which is a big fire hazard. The owner should check his facts before attacking a guest over a claim in their review, which was deleted again. In the hallway, a drunk guest rudely told me to be quiet, which I found unacceptable around school children. The showers smelled terrible. The owner says that's common, but I haven't encountered it at other hotels I've stayed at in Iceland. My towel also disappeared, so I think the owner must have stolen it as some kind of practical joke. To top it off, I was disgusted to see the owner unclogging the sink with his hands and then using those hands to open the bread for breakfast. I'm sure other hostels wouldn't do that. It's absolutely grim. A place like this must be closed immediately!

The location is good, and the books in the communal room were interesting. There's a swimming pool next to the hostel, free to use if you buy the Retkjavik city card for 24 hours. The room has its own sink, but the showers, toilet, and kitchen are shared with everyone. The beds are bunks, and the shower pressure was weak, not really enough to wash your hair. Check-in isn't available until 15:00 unless you pay extra. We ended up wandering around for hours with heavy luggage.

DO NOT COME HERE!!! I booked a room at baron’s hostel but was given a different, downgraded room at b47 hostel. The staff were very rude and told me I could take a refund. Don't book this. Now they're making up stories that the landlord closed it for maintenance. I don't see a single person in this hostel, which is why I think they've closed the two floors and some rooms on the 2nd floor, since nobody is staying here.

A fine, inexpensive place to stay if you just need something simple, very close to downtown. The 8 bunk rooms were clean, the mattresses comfortable, and everything else was fine, though nothing exciting. The hostel is on the 3rd and 4th floors of the same building as the B47 hostel. The building itself isn't much to write home about, with long, dark hallways and bedrooms off them. It got a bit warm in the room in the middle of the night even though it was 48F outside and a small window was open. There's a large kitchen and dining room, but no big comfortable lounge. The showers were disappointing: there was nowhere to set clothes or toiletries outside the shower, and although there are mirrors, there are no shelves. Everything was clean.
