Student hotel & hostel

The room was comfortable enough, and the location is great. The shared female restroom needs a thorough clean, though, with mildew all over the showers. People coming and going and slamming the main door made it hard to sleep. The shared kitchen is a good idea but could be cleaner too. The booking said luggage storage was free, but apparently you need to pay for a locker to be safe. :(

We ended up at the student hostel after delayed luggage forced us to change our travel plans, and felt lucky to find it. Agga was especially kind and welcoming, and did a lot to help two very stressed travelers. All the staff were friendly and really helpful. There are large shared areas, kept clean and equipped with what you need in a hostel. I’d recommend staying here.

It helps to arrive with the right expectations, and this place was just what I expected. The rooms were clean and the staff friendly. The hostel is right beside a local bus stop and the Icelandic national museum, which worked out perfectly for me. It’s also 10 minutes from BSI bus terminal, with direct connections from there to the airport and other places in Iceland. I usually lose my arrival day, but this time I could fit a visit into my schedule.

For about $200 a night, this was the best value I found in an otherwise expensive city. The beds were comfortable, our private bathroom was clean, and the staff were extremely helpful. It’s an easy walk to both the BSI bus station and downtown Reykjavik. Guests of all ages were staying there.
