The Herring Guesthouse

The host was incredibly kind, respectful, and helpful, and the Herring House cottage is a beautiful, cozy place. I had such a wonderful experience there. It's a special spot!

We were a short drive from some good hiking, and there are also trails above town with fantastic views. The town itself was great, and the hosts were wonderful people. We spent three nights in a Herring House cabin. It was clean and really warm, with a private toilet. The shower is outside, but heats up fast and has a door for some privacy. We were nervous about showering outdoors, but it turned out to be a great experience, with the mountain view and crisp autumn air. Highly recommend The Herring House.

I loved how quiet and isolated this small town felt, and the region was magical, with stunning surroundings and great hiking. Helga and Dagur were so kind, gave us excellent recommendations, and let us know when the Northern Lights would be visible. They also let us charge our car, which we really appreciated. I especially enjoyed talking with Helga about life in Siglufjordhur. You can tell she's proud of her community, and it seems to have a sense of community that we lack in my culture. I highly recommend staying more than one night. The brewery and locals bar weren't open while we were there, but there's a good little grocery store in town, and you can get a drink at either of the two hotels. The Moroccan restaurant is excellent. The outdoor showers, a soak in the hot tub, and walking barefoot on that amazing Icelandic grass are my most treasured memories from this stay. This was definitely my favorite place from a recent trip to Iceland. Stay here, you won't regret it!

The outdoor shower and changing room were my favorite features, and the room was already warm and cozy when we arrived. The owners were very friendly and helpful with everything. It's a stunning little cabin in a quaint fishing village, within walking distance of everything. We absolutely loved our stay and look forward to visiting again.
