Arnanes Country Hotel

The breakfast had a great range and was high quality, and the whole place felt carefully looked after, cozy, and spotless. We spent one night here in March and got such a warm welcome that we felt at home right away. It’s a quiet, inviting place to unwind after exploring Iceland. The hotel is certified bedbug-free, and we saw no pests at all inside the wooden cabins, not even spiders, mosquitoes, or flies. We were thrilled with our stay, would happily recommend it, and would come back.

We only stayed one night, but it was just what we needed. The guesthouses are very nice, with shared bathrooms, and the location just outside Hofn is convenient. The price was in line with other places around Hofn.

Our room was dirty, with a grimy toilet, dirt on the floor, dust under the bed, and hairs on the pillow and blanket. The walls are thin, so you can hear everything in the next room. Breakfast was okay, but the coffee had no taste and the service was unpleasant. A key to one room apparently opens all the others, which is a serious security issue. Some of our group had to find another hotel at the last minute after several rooms were closed because of bedbugs. I hope our room was clear, but when we arrived, the owner scolded us instead of helping us sort things out. She was rude and unpleasant. This is not a three-star hotel. It’s a cheap hostel with poor upkeep and awful service. A joke. Stay away.

The host Stephano (sorry if I got the spelling wrong) and I had two great conversations about life in his country and mine. The service was perfect, and he was very accommodating. This was arguably the best hotel on our Ring Road drive. I’d stay again if I ever return to Iceland.
