Guesthouse Lyngholt

We stayed two nights, 8/21 and 8/22, and found this a great place to recharge during an Iceland self-driving trip. It’s quiet and peaceful, well placed between major tourist spots, and we’d strongly recommend it to people driving the ring road. The house is very clean and feels decorated like a home. There’s a full kitchen with the essentials and little extras, so we never went hungry. Guests are trusted to come and go freely, without the owner needing to meet them in person. A small supermarket and wine store are almost next door, and the owner also runs the town’s only convenience store and restaurant, down the street past an unmanned gas station. Hotel guests get a complimentary breakfast buffet there, and lunch and dinner are available too. The owner is professional, friendly, and kind.

The room was spacious, the bed really comfortable, and it had a TV and good heating. The place itself was very nice, with a fully equipped kitchen and a laundry room with a dryer. Breakfast was included during the summer, starting July 3rd, and served at the N1 gas station a two-minute drive down the street. It was tasty, with cheese, sausages, bread, sandwiches, pastries, coffee, and more. I had trouble getting clear check-in details from the host. We booked through Airbnb, but she didn’t answer my question there, and when we arrived, the note just said to call a number to check in. That part was quick and easy, but the kitchen instructions weren’t clear, and we had to look around to find the laundry room. I’d still recommend the place.

The guesthouse was spacious and comfortable, and breakfast at the N1 station was generous. We’d booked a twin room, but the only one available had a double bed. The owner went out of her way to fix that, traveling half an hour to bring an extra bed for our room. We were happy with the result.

A snowstorm left me staying here unexpectedly, and it turned out to be excellent accommodation. The house was quiet, the bed comfortable, and both the room and bathrooms were very clean. There’s a great kitchen and dining space guests can use. The public pool is very close, and I practically had it to myself. Down the street, around the corner from the N1, there’s Baran bar and restaurant.
