Vík Cottages

The cottages are a funny, unusual idea, and the place was sparkling clean with good quality shower gels, though the bathroom space is tiny. The outer door lock didn’t work, which may be okay in Iceland, but still. Parking was included. For this price you could get a proper hotel with breakfast, though the unique setup made the night worthwhile.

The room was clean and nicely furnished, and the location is lovely for looking at the night sky. But for the price, it fell short. The cottage is divided into two medium-sized rooms rented to different guests, so it isn’t private. The bathroom is very small, and the shower is one of those movable-wall setups with no proper separate shower space. There’s little beyond a bed, small desk, and bathroom. The window looks out at the supermarket and shop, rather than the natural view the photos seemed to suggest. It’s a nice room, but overpriced. Given what’s included, I expected it to cost almost half as much.

The rooms were clean, but the cost is far too high for the location and the quality. These are rooms rather than cottages, since you share the supposed cottage with another room. I wouldn’t recommend them at this price. You could spend the same amount on two nights somewhere else in Vil.

The setting was lovely, with sea and cliffs in view and seabirds nesting behind our cottage. They also had really nice toiletries. But I didn’t enjoy the stay much beyond the location. There was a strange smell that wouldn’t go away because the cottage wasn’t well ventilated, and the bed was very uncomfortable.
