Hotel Abano Astoria

Breakfast was the weakest part for us. It felt repetitive, and we'd have liked healthier choices, more fruit and vegetables, and fresh juices. There were no blueberries, bananas, strawberries, or melon. The pancakes from the kitchen were very greasy. Coffee and tea came from a machine operated by the waiter. Letting guests make their own drinks could speed things up and make the waiter's job easier. We also found the rooms noisy, and had very loud guests above us during siesta time. Dinner starts after 7:30 pm, even later on New Year's Eve, so an earlier start, ideally at 6 pm, would be welcome. Lunch and dinner were generally tasty, though water cost €3 per bottle and wasn't included. A free carafe would make more sense, and guests should be told the water is charged before it's brought to the table. In a four-star hotel, we expected robes and towels for the wellness area to be included, but they cost €10. Still, the services were generally satisfactory for the price. We came back after ten years and found that, even though the hotel is older, the value fits the quality. We particularly enjoyed the Christmas decorations, daily room cleaning, evening programs, and wellness area. The hotel is well looked after, and we got the feeling that the customer comes first, especially when something needs to be discussed directly with Gianni and his wife.

I felt well looked after here, from the warm, generous staff who always welcomed us with a smile to the clean rooms and excellent breakfast. The view was beautiful, over the lush, forested mountains and the hotel's well-kept garden. There are several indoor and outdoor pools filled with naturally heated thermal water sourced from deep beneath the Alpine mountains. The mineral-rich water felt therapeutic and deeply relaxing. Clean towels were provided, the bar was ready to serve, and there were group aqua fitness sessions and musical entertainment programs for anyone interested. A lovely place to relax, recharge, and feel at home.

The restaurant wouldn't serve us because we didn't want the full menu, and sent us to the bar area instead. The room was outdated and poor quality, and even basic things like towels, bathrobes, flip-flops, and a swimming cap cost extra. The service wasn't worth the price, and the stay was disappointing. P.S. After I posted that review, the hotel manager wrote a response full of lies.

Getting around was difficult because the hotel is in the middle of a field and the bus hardly runs. The service was poor, the restaurant felt like a canteen, and the unfriendly staff made me uncomfortable. When I wanted to eat with my little girl, they acted as if I was asking for something special. They also wanted extra money for towels, bathrobes, flip-flops, and swimming caps, things I'd expect a four-star hotel to provide. The place felt more like a sanatorium for elderly people than a hotel.
