The host sent clear instructions on WhatsApp, though I didn’t meet them. It was peaceful and quiet, yet close to the main town. The room was tidy, but the bathroom air vent was filthy. The bed squeaked a little but was comfortable, and the Smart TV with Netflix was a nice bonus. Breakfast vouchers were for a nearby large café, which had lovely options. Thanks for having us.

I never expected to write this, but I want others to know about how little empathy the owners showed. My flights, along with all flights in the Middle East, were abruptly canceled a few weeks before my planned Rome trip as conflict between Iran and Israel escalated. I was in the region, terrified as missiles lit up the sky, and focused on staying safe. With circumstances completely out of my control, I contacted them to cancel, hoping for some understanding, a refund, a credit for another stay, or even a sympathetic reply. They refused any compensation and kept the full amount. Since it was peak season in Rome, I believe they easily rebooked my room, so they lost nothing while I lost my money. I appealed several times, but they wouldn’t budge. In a situation like this, I believe both the law and basic decency call for compassion. Shame on them. If you book here, be warned, I felt treated like a credit card rather than a person. Stay somewhere guests are valued and respected.

I really appreciated how carefully the room was cleaned. We’d rushed out without putting our things away, and when we got back, everything had been folded and put in its place. I love that kind of attention to detail. The towels were clean and white, and thanks for the free minibar. The location was great too. The room, though, was bad in my opinion: tiny for two people, with almost no storage for luggage, clothes or shoes. The bathroom was very small and had no shelf, so I couldn’t even find anywhere to put shampoo in the shower. Our windows looked onto an old house, and there was a bad smell from the street and noise from neighbors renovating. The old house also had a difficult, tiring elevator, and I was afraid it might get stuck.

We had a fantastic time at Suites 44 and would happily come back or recommend it. Diego gave us great tips for places to eat and have an aperitif in Trastevere, a lovely 30-minute walk along the river. The building sits inside a courtyard and has a beautiful old-fashioned lift that felt like something from a movie. Our room had plenty of space, a lovely bathroom, Smart TV, kettle with tea bags, and coffee machine. The location near the Vatican was handy, with bus stops and metro stations just down the road, and getting there with our suitcases was easy.
