I hope I never have to deal with the owner again. He told me he had a pass that let me drive into the restricted traffic zone to reach his property. After several calls, when the fine arrived, he wouldn’t take responsibility. I won’t be back. If I’d known what I was getting into, I’d have picked somewhere else.

We arrived around 7 pm on the day we booked. The place was easy to find, and arranging things on WhatsApp had gone smoothly. The host handed over the keys, and we looked around. The door had been left wide open with the lights on, and there was no mosquito net. The host’s colleague came in too. What we found was awful: damp bathroom towels, an oily, uncleaned tiled backsplash, a cheese grater left on top of a cupboard for who knows how long, and yellow coolant collected on the fridge’s bottom shelf. The fridge’s lower outer edge was rotting. There was dust all over the living room and children’s room, with lots of pictures gathering even more dust. Odd hairs were under and around the bed. The cup and plate cupboard was grimy, the clothes rack was filthy and unusable without cleaning, and the bathroom drawers were dusty with a piece of mirror inside. The outlets were sticky, greasy, and worn. The stove was rusty and some kitchen utensils were completely unhygienic. We stayed only from 7 pm until 6:30 the next morning, just long enough to rest after a five-hour drive, then checked out early because hygiene was nonexistent. This felt hazardous and like a complete rip-off. I took 50 photos, and they tell the story. After I complained to Booking.com, the host messaged on WhatsApp that he wouldn’t refund me, though he’d previously been willing to, and said Booking.com would block negative reviews. I’d send the health department there if I could. There was nothing good to say. Booking.com should let guests add more photos to reviews.

The location is ideal, but the owner monitored everything: when I came back, who I was with, what noise I made, when I should get up or go to bed, when to turn on the TV, even when I left. I’m 30, and not even my father would act like that anymore. I came to relax, and instead was insulted and threatened with being thrown out just for leaving the TV on until 1:30 AM. Never again. I strongly don’t recommend it, especially since the services are nonexistent for the price.

From the lovely terrace you can see the Faraglioni dei Ciclopi, and you’re just steps from the sea. It’s a beautiful, simple apartment in a great location, with private parking, which is crucial in these villages where parking can be hard to find. A good fit for two couples traveling together.
