Palazzo Dogana Resort

Toni was a big part of why our stay went so well. He made sure we had what we needed, answered all our questions, and shared some great tips for the area. We were traveling as a large family, and the hotel could accommodate all of us. After staying in a lot of hotels and B&Bs along the Italian coast, this was easily our best experience. The setting, beauty, value, and service were all the best we encountered in Italy.

The hotel beach wasn't peaceful, with children around and young staff, and weekend discos went on until 1 or 2 a.m. right below the rooms. The reception staff couldn't give useful information about nearby tours or transport, and sometimes gave wrong details or never got back to us. Our room smelled of smoke, so we had to switch rooms. Cleaning was poor: sometimes towels were forgotten, there was urine all over the toilet when we arrived, and the sheets weren't changed during our six-day stay. We were also woken by dogs barking at the hotel every morning. The building feels old, the beds are like stone, and the bathroom is very dated. The air conditioning took a while to cool the room.

The building itself is nice and old, and the staff were polite. Still, this didn't feel like a four-star hotel: the beds were uncomfortable, the room wasn't cleaned well, and it was noisy. The cakes served each morning were old. Most staff seemed inattentive, apart from the woman at breakfast.

Toni made sure our large family had what we needed, answered our questions, and gave us helpful recommendations nearby. The hotel managed to accommodate all of us. We'd stayed at many hotels and B&Bs along the Italian coast, and this was the best one by far for its location, beauty, value, and service.
