Vecchio Saracino

The setting was lovely and the staff were charming, but the food was really quite poor. The dishes seemed to be going for “fine dining,” yet they were mostly unpleasant to eat. Three of the four we tried smelled a little unfresh or simply tasted bad. It’s a shame, especially as the meal was quite expensive.

Our party of 29 came to Carola 1801, with four generations of our family together. We’d arranged a menu in advance with Vincenzo, the excellent chef, and the food was amazing. The wines from Merino were fantastic, too. Traffic and bus schedules made us arrive late, leaving us less than an hour to eat before we had to go. The staff handled it with very fast, professional, excellent service. We just wish we’d had enough time to relax and savor the outstanding food.

We had a wonderful stay, with a very comfortable place right by the port. The beach and main square were both within walking distance. 🙏

I went for my birthday with dear friends and came away very impressed. The food was superb, and the setting, decor, atmosphere, and service were all lovely. The price matched what we got. If you appreciate high Western standards and want a quiet, respectful, elegant meal, I recommend this restaurant. I don’t say this often, but A1.
