Agriturismo Cascina Mirandola

Alessia was attentive and empathetic with our family and our baby, and the breakfast staff were very friendly. The buffet and coffee were excellent. Beyond that, though, our stay was mostly negative, especially because of the room location and restaurant service. We were told when booking that the available room was outside the property, and I assumed that meant away from the main building. It was actually in another town, about a 10 minute drive from the Agriturismo. Staff had to transport us back and forth, and there was no parking space by the room, so we couldn’t drive right up to it. With our one year old, we wanted somewhere he could move around freely, and that wasn’t possible there. The room itself was okay, but the distance should have been explained more clearly when we booked. We had stopped here for a break on a road trip. Dinner was only available from 19:30, too late for our toddler, who is already in bed then. Alessia kindly said they could make him something earlier. When she went to ask the kitchen, we heard shouting and arguing. The kitchen and service staff sounded angry about the request. It was only pasta pomodoro, and I could have made it myself, but we were in the middle of nowhere with no other food options nearby, and our baby needed to eat. We trusted Alessia when she said it could be done. They eventually brought the pasta, but the team seemed very grumpy. Other diners were offered drinks, while nobody even offered us water. We sat there for over an hour waiting for the regular dinner service so we could eat and drink too, but after feeling disrespected and as if we were being punished, we went to bed hungry. Luckily, we had water in the car. I’m glad our baby got something to eat, but the way we were treated showed little empathy for a family with a small child. I understand there was no service at that hour. If they couldn’t feed our child before dinner time, they could have told us when we arrived, and we would have driven somewhere else. We were led to expect it was possible, then treated like a street dog begging for food. My family didn’t deserve that. It’s sad that some people undermine the hard work others put into making this place good. I wouldn’t recommend it, especially for families with children.

What stayed with me most was the feeling of deep quiet: the place sits high on the hills, surrounded by nature and fresh air, yet Como is still nearby. The atmosphere feels like real rural life, warmly and elegantly cared for, without anything seeming fake or made for tourists. Agriturismo Cascina dates back to the 14th century, and you can feel that history as soon as you arrive. Breakfast was excellent, with fresh, high quality food thoughtfully prepared and served in peaceful surroundings. Waking up there was one of the best parts of our trip. It felt like an experience in itself, with a touch of romance. I’d gladly return, especially for anyone looking for nature, history, and tranquility.

The drive up was bumpy, but worth it. Our room was inexpensive and the animals were adorable, especially the pony. The food was very nice, and the restaurant waiters were so friendly. Mauritzëo in particular was lovely and even gave us free potatoes.

The animals around the hotel are really cute, and the drive there is a bit tricky. Take it slowly and it's fine. We had a great time, thanks to Valerio's good mood and helpful advice. Dinner was really nice, definitely give it a try, and breakfast was amazing too. Grazie mile.
