Amalfia Apartments

We had a wonderful stay, and the staff were about as friendly as they could be. The rooms had lots of nice perks and worked perfectly for our family of four. We enjoyed the pool and the great service, and would definitely come back.

The pool was clean and refreshing, though sometimes busy enough that we had to wait for a chair. Other times we had it to ourselves. The pool towels felt very old, so we used our own beach towels. The hotel is just outside the busy center, and a 30 minute hike from there took us to Agricola Fore Porta, an amazing restaurant for lunch that requires reservations. It was the highlight of our trip. Reneta gave us excellent restaurant suggestions, and we could WhatsApp her to confirm our pickup when we left. She and the hotel replied quickly to our Booking.com messages about arriving early and arranging a private airport transfer. We checked in early, and the transfer was booked and confirmed correctly. We’d read the Google reviews on the day we were due to arrive and were glad we hadn’t seen them sooner, since we didn’t have any of the problems mentioned. There were no mysterious charges, just the room rate and tourist tax at check-in. Our room was clean, and the air conditioning worked so well I had to turn it off most nights because I was cold. Breakfast was basic but well organized, and the women looking after guests were very welcoming.

The lack of communication and flexibility was really disappointing, and I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone expecting a basic level of responsiveness or hospitality. We even went there in person to try to sort things out, but staff wouldn’t help, although we were there and ready to pay. Our flight was due in after the 6:30pm check-in cutoff, which is unusually early, so I messaged ahead to ask about arriving late. They promptly said no, which was disappointing but within their policy. On arrival day, I asked again at 9:30am whether we could check in the next day and keep our reservation. I heard nothing, so I booked another hotel for that first night, hoping to check in the following day and save the rest of the stay. After we landed, they finally replied to say no again and that they had canceled our whole booking as a no-show, without a refund. They knew we still planned to stay several nights, but kept payment for the full stay.

We were on our honeymoon and had to arrive late because of a medical emergency. I messaged the resort on WhatsApp, explained what was going on, and they said it was fine and asked me to keep them updated. I sent regular updates, then told them I was making the 3.5-hour drive from Rome to Amalfi. When we arrived, they’d given away our room and wouldn’t help us further. They were rude and careless, with no empathy. I’d only read the Booking.com and Google reviews the night before our stay, and they had already made us uneasy. What happened to us confirmed those reviews. Avoid at all costs.
