Hotel Villa Blu Capri

The location was great, and breakfast was well done, but I wouldn't call this a 5-star hotel. Our room wasn't ready when we arrived in the afternoon, so they offered us a small glass of prosecco to make up for it. The hotel controls the AC and turns it off after a certain time. My husband takes medication that makes him especially warm at night, and they offered no help. We struggled with the shower too. The water never got hot, the control handle fell off, and we were told we had to turn the water on and off. The bathroom floor flooded both days. I felt like we were putting in more effort than the staff just to make the room work.

The pool area looked very nice, but the pool was grimy and dirty around all the edges and corners. Our first room was a classic room in the basement, where it smelled of mould and needed a deep clean. Staff spent time on a screen, then made it seem like a big favor to offer an upgrade for €100 per night, taking our nightly rate to €500. We saw the room and accepted, but its bathroom also wasn't deeply cleaned. The tub wouldn't drain and the Jacuzzi jets didn't work. They blamed a recent power outage, though it seemed clear the jets hadn't worked for a while. Jacuzzi tubs have built-in surge protection, as we all know. The whole trip was otherwise amazing, which made this hotel a complete disappointment. This is not a 5-star hotel. After reading other reviews, the upgrade offer seems like a farce: others were offered free upgrades after finding mouldy smells in basement rooms. We also found current rates while we were there that were half what we had booked at. Before checkout we raised our concerns and asked for the upgrade cost back. We were told the admin department would email us, but they never did. Beware, and read the screenshot reviews attached to support mine.

The room was clean, the water was hot, the AC kept it nice and cool, and breakfast had lots of options with a friendly, helpful attendant. The location is right in the heart of Anacapri, just steps from the taxi and bus stations. Reception was very friendly and offered us welcome drinks and a seat outside, though three other staff members then each asked what we'd like to drink. The pool needs better maintenance, with crumbling tiles, and we had to go looking for towels. The room could use a facelift. This definitely isn't a 5-star hotel, so don't come expecting 5-star service or accommodation. I felt compelled to write this after seeing all the negative comments.

The pool was covered in green algae and looked disgusting. A garden hose was stretched across the ground while they filled it, creating a tripping hazard. Towels and drinks weren't easy to get, and the bar was often unattended. A Prosecco cost €17, and the hotel refused to take a €100 pool bar bill off our account, even as a goodwill gesture. They also tried to charge €20 for a bucket of ice until I complained. We were here for our honeymoon, and this was the worst hotel stay we've ever had. On arrival, the elevator was out of order and there was a leak in the corridor. By night two the Wi-Fi had stopped working and the power went out, so we couldn't shower and missed the breakfast we'd paid for. We complained about having no hot water three times, got moved to another room, and still had no hot water until a service employee admitted he'd turn up the water tank temperature. It felt like the hotel was cutting costs at guests' expense. The replacement room had black mold, broken lights, and damaged fixtures. When I calmly raised the problems, staff said there was nothing they could do. They told me to email an address about compensation, then said they “do not have compensation forms.” There was no apology or acknowledgment, and no effort to fix things. The place is dirty, unprofessional, and utterly mismanaged. It ruined part of our honeymoon. I wouldn't let my dog stay here, let alone recommend it, and we won't return.
