La Belle Epoque

The old town location may keep bringing in people who don't know what to expect, but I doubt many would choose to return. I definitely can't recommend this place, mainly because of how rude the owner was. I stayed just one night, which was lucky, and had to be there because my insurance booked it, probably as the cheapest option. If I could have, I would have walked out straight away, though the stay had already been paid for and there was no refund. My room was in the attic on the fourth floor. There was no lift, and the stair lights only worked on some floors. I could stand upright in only half the room, which I managed, and the bathroom had no bidet and wasn't very clean. The hotel kitchen was closed, and despite breakfast being advertised on the website, I was told they don't serve it. When I asked the owner where I could get dinner and breakfast, he just said to go down the street and find somewhere. I wasn't expecting breakfast for free, but that response was not what I'd expect from a business owner. The owner has replied to my review, but I found him very rude and unwilling to help. Looking at other reviews, I'm not the only one to say so. I also think his response is untruthful and that he has a very short memory.

The location was a real highlight, with the railway station nearby and an ice cream shop close enough for a quick stop. I liked the design too, and the room was nice. The TV was small, but worked well and had good picture quality. The curly-haired waiter in the dining room was especially kind and quick. The rest of the service was just okay, and the food arrived a bit cold, though the cake was fine. That's why I'm giving it three stars despite enjoying the location. No Wi-Fi in the room is a deal breaker for me. I booked in a rush while heading up into the mountains and hadn't checked the Google reviews first. This place was quite an experience, and there are plenty of better places to stay in town. Save yourself the stress. I would've given the service zero stars if I could.

The location is great, and the bed was big and comfortable, though the room felt a little small and the bathroom fixtures were crammed in. The staff treatment, though, made the stay unpleasant. After a long, difficult train trip, a staff member made comments about my belly at check-in. When I asked about an elevator, I was told there wasn't one and that I could take the stairs to work off some weight. Who says that to a paying customer? My booking was non-refundable, otherwise I would've cancelled right then and left. I avoided the restaurant after that, kept my head down, and left as early as I could the next morning. A shame, since my grand entrance at La Belle Epoque had to be so unpleasant. The place has potential, but from what I could tell there was no Wi-Fi, despite it being advertised. There was a laminated note on the desk in my room saying there was no Wi-Fi.
