The ground-floor layout was a big reason I booked la finestra sul cortile straight away after seeing it online. After a full day skiing, it was good not having to lug bags upstairs or climb stairs. The trade-off is a less scenic outlook and just one window, in the bedroom. Still, the air moved well with it open, and opening the front door made it quite breezy. It's in the Roman old town, which has a lot of atmosphere, but the house sits on a beautiful marble-paved alley, so it stays quiet despite all the tourists. Inside, the decor feels artistic and nostalgic while still being practical and fully functional. There was plenty of light, especially in the bright shower cubicle, and I liked the reading lights. Those little choices made it feel like the owner had thought about guests' different needs. The spacious living room is nicely decorated, and there's a double bedroom, a separate room used as a wardrobe, an open kitchen, a reasonably spacious bathroom, and a utility room with a washing machine and cleaning tools. It was well equipped too, with a full set of utensils, metal cutlery, and nice coffee cups and dishes made of high-quality porcelain. The owner and his wife Camelia replied quickly whenever I contacted them. When I messaged to ask for extra towels to use as a pillow because my neck needs firmer support, Camelia brought me a harder pillow along with plenty of towels and cushions. Thank you so much! Camelia also suggested reading the house information folder, which was useful. It explains the washing machine's different wash and dry programs for different loads, and says to bring your own detergent. It also points out that the heating is in the floor, so the wall heater in the bedroom can be ignored. I found the floor heating less drying. Thanks again to the owners for their hospitality. I hope I can come back!

It felt like our own little paradise.
