Hotel Derby

We've come back to this lovely family-run hotel many times, and Manager Vera and her staff always make us feel welcome. Nothing is too much trouble. The clean, comfortable rooms had a great balcony view this year, and the location is ideal for the slopes, bars, and restaurants. Great hotel and wonderful hospitality. We'll definitely be back.

The location is the one thing going for this hotel, right near the slope. The rooms were nothing special, and we had both breakfast and dinner there. Breakfast was poor: just one kind of cheese and ham, cold eggs, dry bread, plus croissants, cereal, yogurt, jam, and Nutella. The coffee was terrible, as was the hot water. Dinner came with two courses, dessert, and a buffet. The vegetables, like boiled broccoli, green beans, cauliflower, and carrots, were always cold. The boiled or fried potatoes seemed reheated from the previous day. The main dishes and desserts ranged from decent to very bad. Tap water was listed as still bottled water and cost 2.5 euros each. The owner's response to our gluten-free diet was obnoxious. She said we should buy our own gluten-free bread and that it was our problem. The gluten-free pasta at dinner was served raw and impossible to digest. When we politely suggested cooking it longer, she said there was no solution and they couldn't do anything. This place isn't family or group friendly. Utterly awful, stay away.

For about 60 euros a night with half-board, you get a clean double room with a balcony and AC that works well. The building isn't modern inside, but everything works, and they take cards. WiFi was mediocre but usable. Breakfast choices are very limited, while dinner was enough. Hard-working Italian and Ukrainian staff provide the service. Language can be a problem if you don't know Italian. The location right next to the ski lift is great. The three-star rating makes the Derby Hotel sound grander than it is, but it's still a decent budget option.

Just awful. It was much too loud, with lots of middle school groups. The rooms were old, the receptionist was rude, and the food was below average. Sound insulation was bad too, so you could hear absolutely everything. I really wouldn't recommend it.
