Hotel Le Clou

We got there at about 7:30 in the evening. Reception was downstairs by the restaurant entrance, and the woman who came out seemed to be running the restaurant as well. It felt as if our arrival was interrupting her. She copied our passports and handed over the keys. I asked whether the room had air conditioning and was told no. There wasn't even a fan. The room was on the first floor, right by the hotel entrance, with a window facing both the road and the entrance. Opening it meant people coming in could see into the room, so changing clothes with the window open wasn't possible. It was 37 degrees outside. I asked to move to a room where we could at least get undressed, and the owner, who I want to stress was not an employee, suddenly started shouting that we should leave if we didn't like it. She yelled so much I thought my heart might stop. In her anger, she tried to rip up our passport copies. I stopped her and agreed to take the room, since it was late and other hotels had no availability. Even after we checked in, she kept shouting and telling us to leave if the room wasn't good enough. I eventually told her that after more than 35 years of traveling, I'd never experienced such rudeness from a hotel owner or seen hotel staff treat guests this way. We're from Israel and are usually welcomed everywhere. We felt this incident might have been antisemitism, because her tone changed as soon as she saw our passports. Local tourists arrived after us and she treated them properly. I think this behavior is completely unacceptable. What a shame.
