Dal Moro Gallery Hotel

The Basilica de Santa Maria degli Angeli is only a 3-minute walk away, and there are plenty of nearby restaurants if you'd rather eat out. The hotel serves good food too. From outside, it looks smaller than it really is, and we liked the gallery style. Our room had a balcony facing the street, which we were lucky to get. The building layout, or the way the rooms are arranged, can be confusing, especially for elderly guests.

The public website gave us a very different impression from the actual hotel. The photos didn't match what we found, and there was no live piano music in the lobby. We stayed four nights in mid-October 2025 while touring Rome and Assisi, and came away thinking this was below standard, more like a 2-star hotel. The front desk manager was cold and brash, although a young man at the desk was consistently helpful. Dinner was mediocre apart from a few exceptions, and breakfast had limited food and drink choices. Our room was small even by European standards, with stained carpet, a TV only a little bigger than a tablet, and an acrylic desk chair. When we raised the TV size with reception, they said all rooms had the same size screens. We knew that wasn't right because we'd talked with several other guests. Hallway noise was common too. There was no air conditioning. We were told the HVAC had been winterized, so A/C wasn't possible. Opening the windows brought in street noise and pigeons, and there was pigeon poop on the inside ledge. The bathroom was cramped with very little counter space, no facial tissues, and a very small shower with mold in several places, as shown in the photos.

The staff were wonderful and went out of their way to help, and the restaurant was very good. This is a fabulous family-run hotel on the main, mostly pedestrian street in Santa Maria degli Angeli, surrounded by restaurants and bars and just a stone's throw from the Basilica. It's a little way from Assisi, but makes a great base for exploring the region by car. Trains and buses are options too.

The shower head was awesome, and the water gets hot quickly. Our room was lovely, with a large balcony and a bathroom bigger than average. Breakfast and dinner were excellent for a group booking, much better than at any other hotel I've stayed at in Italy. They also cater really well for vegan and vegetarian guests, which other hotels don't do well. Thanks, Dal Moro!
